Torry Courte – Photo Blog
This is another interesting photo I took in Vancouver while out for a walk. It really didn’t look as cool in real life. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t look very cool in this photo either, mostly because it has to compete with the tagging around it.
I’m not sure what the deal is with stencil graffiti, but it does indeed apparently have a long history as an art form, and originally started in the 1960’s with artists such as John Fekner in New Yory City, and French artist Ernest Pignon-Ernest. His first work was a response to France’s nuclear weapons aresenal.

I think my favorite stencil graffiti work is “Killing people is rude”, which can be found in Chicago, Illinois. Aptly located in a city known for it’s record murder rates. You can check it out here.
